Concrete Filled HSS Members

Concrete filled tubes provide a number of distinct advantages over an equivalent steel or steel-reinforced concrete member. Fire resistance, construction efficiency, and buckling resistance are all increased when a cementitious material is placed in the void of a tube. In this presentation we will explore the design and practical implications of using concrete filled HSS on your next project.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the advantages of concrete filled HSS
  • Review different accepted analysis methods
  • Explore the design of concrete filled HSS members under a variety of loading conditions
  • Consider the practical implications of using concrete filled HSS
