Join us for Rebuilding Together 2024!
SEAOI is partnering with the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) for Rebuilding Together, and National Rebuilding Day is quickly approaching! Rebuilding Together is a national organization dedicated to community revitalization where volunteers join forces to fix up homes that have fallen into disrepair due to lack of resources and/or abilities of the homeowners.
On National Rebuilding Day, Saturday, April 27th, we will be joining hundreds of organizations across the city and across the country on in “rebuilding” the home of Ms. Schuerman, of Park Forest, IL. Ms. Schuerman has a large sense of pride in her home as she was born and raised there, buying it with her late husband when her parents passed away in 1978. Raising two sons and one sweet boxer named Cannon, this home is part of Schuerman history and even though health ailments have changed the way she moves around, she looks forward to repairs to keep this home in the family.
We have one day to accomplish our work scope and would love your help! Everyone is invited to participate, even if you are inexperienced with home repairs, there will be a project for you to help with. Our work scope includes:
- Replacing appliances
- Replacing door hardware
- Installing grab bars in bathrooms
- Patching and painting
- Replacing smoke/carbon monoxide detectors
- Garage cleanup
Volunteers will need to carpool and/or provide their own transportation. To respect the homeowner’s privacy, the exact address of the home will be emailed out before the event to those who sign up. Lunch will be provided and all volunteers will be expected to wear a Rebuilding Together t-shirt (distributed at the house).
Family members and significant others are welcome to join on Rebuild Day, but ALL VOLUNTEERS must be registered on SEAOI’s website.
